About Qatar Family Sponsorship
Qatar lets working expats sponsor their immediate family (spouse, children, parents) for a Family Residence Permit. The principal sponsor must hold a valid QID, prove a minimum income, and ensure every dependent has private health insurance under Law 22/2021 — a renewal will not be issued without a valid insurance certificate.
Per MOI Qatar guidance (Fragomen, January 2024), the salary threshold for sponsoring a spouse and children is QAR 10,000/month, or QAR 6,000/month if you work in a private-sector technical role and your employer provides family housing. Government / semi-government employees always need QAR 10,000/month, with or without housing. Sponsoring parents requires demonstrably higher financial sufficiency — most legal advisors cite QAR 20,000/month.
On the cost side, every member pays a one-off initial entry visa (QAR 200) and medical commission (QAR 200 adult / QAR 100 child) in year 1, then a recurring QID fee (QAR 500/yr or QAR 900 for a 3-year permit) plus mandatory Law 22/2021 health insurance (roughly QAR 1,500/yr adult and QAR 800/yr child for the minimum package). This calculator aggregates those line items into year-1, recurring, and 5-year totals.
