About Kuwait Residency Fees 2026

Kuwait overhauled its entire residency fee structure through Ministerial Resolution No. 2249/2025, effective 23 December 2025. Fees nearly doubled across all categories — the most significant reform in over a decade. Employer-sponsored workers now pay KWD 20 for Iqama renewal (up from KWD 10), while self-sponsored residents under Article 24 pay KWD 500.

Mandatory health insurance increased from KWD 50 to KWD 100 per person annually. Dependent permit fees also rose: family dependents (spouse and children) now cost KWD 20–100 per year depending on the sponsor category, and parents or other dependents now cost KWD 300 each (up from KWD 200). This calculator consolidates all applicable fees to show your true annual residency cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

The new fees under Ministerial Resolution No. 2249/2025 became effective on 23 December 2025. All Iqama renewals processed from that date onward are subject to the new fee schedule.
Yes. Kuwait requires all expatriate residents to hold valid health insurance. The mandatory insurance fee is KWD 100 per person per year (doubled from the previous KWD 50) and applies to the primary applicant and all registered dependents.
Parents and other non-immediate-family dependents are charged a flat annual fee of KWD 300 each, regardless of the primary sponsor type. This is a uniform rate under the new 2025 schedule.
Self-sponsored residency under Article 24 is priced at a premium (KWD 500 for the primary Iqama alone) to reflect the increased administrative and financial independence it grants. Residents who do not require employer sponsorship pay a higher fee in exchange for freedom to work independently.
